How Energy Conservation Works

How Much Energy Does it Take to Roast Your Thanksgiving Turkey?

Natural Gas And Electricity

Did you know that nearly 3 out of 4 Southern Californians report that it takes them more than four hours to prep their Thanksgiving meal, and almost 25 percent say it takes them all day?

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says you should cook a thawed stuffed turkey of regular size for 4-4.5 hours, and electric ovens use 2 kWh when used at 350° for an hour, this means you could be using roughly 8 kWh of energy just to cook your holiday turkey- not including all sides that go with it.

That’s a recipe for a lot of energy used and higher bills for SoCal residents this holiday season!

On average, most people can use up to 8 kWh when cook their Thanksgiving turkey. With that same amount of energy you could watch about 40 hours worth of football! Or you could wash 2.5 loads of laundry in hot water.

It’s important that we all continue to do our part conserving energy this holiday season!
